The South African government along with other African countries are beginning to decriminalise and legalise cannabis enabling a new industry to form. This simultaneously opens up a new field of intellectual endeavour which is an opportunity for innovative and cutting edge transdisciplinary research that can transform lives. The University of Pretoria can play a leading role in this field of research and innovation by drawing on the high-level skills and resources across the social and natural sciences.
This bibliography has been produced for the Cannabis Organisation University of Pretoria with the aim of establishing a resource base for further research. The scope of the bibliography is not restricted by discipline, but it is limited to items written in English, published in South Africa, although there are a few additional entries from Southern Africa. The time period of the conducted search was between 2000 and 2020, with some significant older material included. The content type is predominantly academic publications (journal articles, conference papers, books and book chapters, theses) with a smaller number of ephemera, government publications, reports, blogs and websites where these are relevant. The format is mostly text documents, while there are some presentations (slide shows), there are no images or videos. The sources consulted included journal databases and Indexes (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar); the Internet broadly (organisations, initiatives, individuals etc.); Institutional repositories of the University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University as well as the national Electronic Theses and Dissertations repository.
The bibliography is organised alphabetically by author using APA referencing style. Where available, a DOI, URL or other handle is included even though not all items had this available. The fields that are searchable in the spreadsheet include Author, Title, Publication Date, Item Type, Journal Title, Publication Identifiers (eg DOI, ISSN), Publisher and Place of Publication.
